Local media reporting weather is ridiculous
I was watching the news last night and one of the anchors was talking about the weather, she called the 4 inches of snow from the other day a "snow storm" and she said this with a worrying tone in her voice. I thought "how ridiculous is that?" This isn't the Carolina's who get an inch of snow and the state shuts down for a week. This is Buffalo, we get snow!
If every time it snows is called a snowstorm, what will they have left in words to call a real snowstorm? When did we get to the point of having such ignorant local news reporters? Do their ideas of creating chaos make them higher ranking in the media market?
I feel bettering getting that out.

Agreed! Times like these when even our local news reporters are over exaggerating a small snow dusting is ridiculous to say the least.
Also, thank you FedupWNY for boosting my rep points to 100! Though, the number of posts I have doesn't even reach your rep points yet! Wow, it seems like I've been posting here forever, but FedupWNY has been here much longer than myself. How great to have a continuous poster on City Data that has kept to it so long. If I could give more rep points I would.

I couldn't agree more. I feel the same way about the national news that constantly paints a doom and gloom picture of our economy. I know is bad but come on, do we have to only here the bad? It is a total morale killer. I think the lines between news and entertainment have been erased.

I agree with you both. I had to remind someone at work that it's January in Buffalo. They went on to tell me that the news said we had to brace for another storm today. The snow stopped about 10 minutes after our conversation.
lol

lol. Who do they (our local media weather reporters) think they are kidding? The drifts aren't but more than two feet deep in some spots.

Sometimes it seems that we(local media at least) have taken our "Were From Buffalo, we can handle snow" attitude to the point where we want to make even the small "storms" events that we are proud to survive.

The first year I moved here, people told me I would have to hold ropes in downtown to walk with the wind and snow ( that was a move from NYC/LI in the 1960s) I laughed; my Mother-in-law said they actually did it in the 1930s when she worked at the Telephone company near Police Headquarters!
Now that I survived every storm from thelate 1960s on, including the
Blizzard of 77, the several in the 1980s & 1990s, the Thanksgiving snowstorm of 2001 and the October surprise, snow isn't a reason to be upset.... cripe, with all the areas who are in drought situations, we should be thankful for the healthy restocking of our lake after the snows melt!
I have a 5 foot pile of snow from our plow on the side of the driveway and a few large drifts on the side of the house. The snow is reasonably deep... it is January in Buffalo. I wish all weather reporters would stop doing the hysteria weather unless it is warranted. I stick to Ch 4 -- little hysteria there.

I hate when they put their banner of the "storm warnings" all over my HDTV shows on NBC, and they reduce the resolution to NON High Def, to show their crummy warnings and school closings.
This happens at least once a week it seems.
