A Rochesterian Speaks
I have no reason to be in this forum, but I was passing by and just want to say....
I find that Buffalo people are way nicer and way less screwy than the people here. If you guys had beaches like we do you'd be way ahead of us. I'd move there but if I'm going to go through the misery of moving I'll go somewhere sunny.

Buffalo is the sunniest city in the northeast! It recently (last year) was awarded the "sunshine bowl" title.
We are sunny! Our city/metro is spectacular, and we are slowlygrowing again. Not to mention our professional sports!
Spread word on this "City of Good Neighbors!"

I seriously doubt Lake Ontario is even close to being half as polluted as Lake Erie...though most of that is probably more Cleveland's fault than Buffalo's.

I guess we are both just talking out of our asses until we get out the statistics, but I have always been under the impression that pollution in the great lakes travels 'downstream'; collecting the most in Ontario and Erie. I could definitely be wrong about that, though.
In any case I think it's safe to say that if pollution is a real worry for you, you need to stay out of both Erie and Ontario. Doesn't stop me, though.

There are some beautiful beaches on both Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Personally, the warmer water temps that prevail in Erie more than any other great lake, and the large open beaches keep me near Lake Erie more than Ontario. All the great lakes are nice, but Lake Erie has to be one of the best - heck, I've never felt the effects of any pollution...Enjoy it!

I think its because the land around Erie is flatter and there's more of a gradual slope into the lake, makes for the nicer sandier beaches on Erie, where at least on the US side, the shores of Ontario tend to have a bit of a cliff on them in many places and the beaches are more rocky and pebbly.
Growing up in Newfane, I definitely spend more time near Ontario, but I've done more boating in Erie as I've got friends in the Port Clinton/Catawba Island area here in Ohio.

I don't know, dude, are you sure that your unflagging optimism about the city of Buffalo isn't due to "something in the water"?
Kidding of course--I can't wait for it to be warm enough to get into the lake either. I'll be spending time on the lakeshore in both Rochester and Buffalo this year.
