The Memorial Auditorium
Sad that the Memorial Auditorium is getting torn down. It stood as a meaning of Buffalo. Landmark of the city, and now its getting torn down for supposedly a stupid fishing store (Bass kiss my ***** Pro)... supposedly. The Memorial Auditorium was memorial. i never been to game there, but it was home to Sabres, Bisons (hockey), Braves, and college basketball. Two reasons to keep that place open... or at least standing.
1 the Fog game. how many other teams had a fog game?
2 The Buffalo Sabres defeated the unbeatable Soviet Union... before the 1980 Olympic Miracle.
Sunday i went down to the Old Aud and i got some shots of the destruction. They had fences up and everything telling people not to trespass. Needless to say though there was a pile a concrete that was from the Aud. I actually managed to squeeze my hand under the fence and took a small piece. I own a small piece of Buffalo History. friday i might do a cheap homemade documentary and go down to the site agagin and see if a construction worker would give me a piece, possibly bigger as prove that i actually got a piece of history.
GOD BLESS the MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM

It's much more that's replacing it than just a fishing store. It's the new future of Buffalo - not a decaying arena that does have a lot of great history, and yes it's sad to see it go, but it's also time to move forward.
Check out all areas of this website including the Erie CanalSide Harbor plan and pictures. It's underway people, time to get Buffalo going once again. - Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation
The aud was once the "Convention Center of the Northeast" when completed, however had many other purposes until it closed in the 1990's.
Check out the Live Harbor Cam of the Aud demo: Harbor Cam

Totally agree with Buffalonian4life, if you want a city to grow, you need to destroy old decaying, vacant buildings and build new modern facilities that will attract better crowds, and bring money to the city.
The population of Buffalo is leaving at a rate of 1% per year, at this rate, we need to do something or Buffalo will be the next Detriot, or even worse Rhyolite, Nevada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (I'm exaggerating, but still)

Still a fishing store won't bring people in. there are numerous factors. nobody can build structures that anymore. Like our city Hall and Central Terminal, nobody builds builldings like that. its all about metal, and glass for buidings now.

jazzy jeff, you're right. They don't make buildings like the Aud anymore. I like your passion of Buffalo's history.

True, true, but those buildings dont reside on valuable waterfront land. There's a HUGEEE difference there!!! Save our architectual gems, but the ones that reside on valuable waterfront property without a future should be torn down. Seriously, there's no way one can save a gigantic arena that's falling apart. What would be done in there? Start over, move on, and look to the future. The redigging of the canals is a great factor to the entire Erie Canal Harbor plan. Can't do it without letting go of the Aud. Sorry, but it's time to say good-bye to the past, and welcome the future!!!

People don't realize what a HUGE project this is when all the construction gets going... Check out the erie canal harbor website and be amazed at the plan. Bringing millions of tourists into Buffalo, money being put into the local economy, money to the city, and revitalizing an important part of Buffalo, building on its history, preparing and inovating for the future. I would especially love to see the underground restaurant facing Lake Erie's waters with the illusion that a wall to wall aquarium fish tank (see through) with the Lake's fish in it, makes it look you're looking into the real lake... That's just one of the many smaller attractions going up, I don't have the time to list them all, but they are good and will bring millions of people and money. New life for Buffalo!

I think that it will be a good change, but not that many tourists.
People just don't go on their honeymoons to the rust belt. When is the last time you heard someone say, "we are going on our dream vacation, downtown Cleveland!"
The big problem here is that government is thinking that if they clean up the canal area that everyone will show up. We still have crazy high taxes that will drive both entrepreneurs and tourists away (the former more than the latter though). Without a good amount of new and innovative amenities, Buffalo will be a regional attraction at best. And the new private construction that we need won't come under our ridiculous tax and regulatory structure.

I agree. Anything that will generate revenue is better than an old eyesore taking up precious space near the waterfront. I hated to see the aud go too. I've got many memories of concerts and games there. But, it really IS time to start renewing things and FINALLY taking advantage of our greatest asset - the LAKE!
I'm excited. Now if they could only decide on what to do about the Peace Bridge (or the one they were going to build.)
