Quick answer, suicide rates have shot up, as have pretty much every type of crime...

Casinos rarely bring anything good. For the jobs they bring, so much money is pulled away from the community from losing money gambling.

You can live anywhere in Buffalo and be within 20-30 minutes of a bridge. Of course the closer you are to the city the shorter distance you would have to drive. $600 per month will get you a nice place. My grandmothers old apartment in Lancaster was nice and only $375. Lancaster is nice and quite too. For a job, also look at Heritage Centers or Baker Victory Services

Niagara Falls is horrendous.

You don't have to be in Niagara Falls.

Buffalo, Kenmore, Town of Tonawanda, even Amherst which is further inland, are all good "staging spots" to drive to Toronto - the I90 - Youngman - is really accessible, as are most of the "freeways"...

I can fully understand how that can happen. It's very sad but I can certainly see the link between the two.

homes are cheap in Niagara Falls but the taxes are outrageous, on the Canadian side they are expensive and the taxes are high there as well

My dad and his gf recently drove through Niagara Falls, and dad reported it's still the same old dump. The same roads I encountered every time I drove through there were still torn up and neglected, and the area around the casino is still like London during the Blitz.

How NY let this happen is beyond me, although everyone from western NY understands some of the factors which have led to the situation, there.
