Question Where to stay outside hustle and bustle of Niagra Falls?

Where can one stay outside of the Niagra Falls area?

Outside the main tourism area, but not to far?

Anyone know of a good town and/or lodging?

Thanks!

Rochester is close to 2 hours from Niagara Falls, 1.5hr from Buffalo.

Depends on what your looking for. Buffalo has hustle and bustle downtown, but lots of touristy sights in itself. Lewiston is a smaller, uppity town. You may be able to find a good lodge or hotel there. It is also close to Ft. Niagara in Youngstown, the whirlpool is also close by (across from Niagara University).

If you want do want to stay in Rochester, you could try Brockport or Irondequoit for cheaper lodging. Rochester has alot of history with film and optics, often dubbed "the imaging capital of the world." There are a number of museams in the area that are not very expensive, the George Eastman house is worthwhile to see.

On the Canadian site take a look at Ste. Catherines or Fort Erie. In the US side (if you want to be within a half hour) look at Buffalo and Amherst (that's where the majority of hotels are in the Buffalo area)

Brockport does have good amount of lodging, but it is a college town, so if you are going at the second half of August, stay away from there.

Check out the bed and breakfasts in Youngstown, NY. Just up the niagara river. Very historic little town.

Youngstown, Lewiston..

Both places have very nice little bed and breakfast type places.

Its the exact opposite of the Falls.

However, right in downtown Niagara falls they just rebuilt the old Holiday Inn, and now its a Crowne Plaza.

We stayed there, and it was nice and relaxing.

A few steps from the Rainbow bridge.

I don't recommend staying at the Casino, its overpriced for what you get.
