No matter what, at this point if your children go to public school, they will likely get caught up with trashy people, regardless of your neighborhood.[/quote]
NOOOOOOO They wont get caught up with trashy people. They are very smart children and know who to hang with and who not to. Also, I'm not your normal everyday parent. I know where my kids are at ALL TIMES and who their with. They are either with me, their Granny, step dad, or dad. Their friends usually come over to our house and when they do go to a friends house I drop them off, go in and talk to the parents. Some may think I"m overbaring, but my kids are content with me. They are use to it and actually think it's strange when kids are allowed to just take off and parents don't know exactly where they are.
As they get older, I'll loosen the ropes and let them grow. but I will always know what they are up to until they are 18.

Not saying anything about you as a parent, just saying that they will likely have prolonged contact with bad kids at school (whether they are friends or not). My parents were like you are, and I am so thankful for that, I avoided a lot of problems that are causing some of my friends a lot of trouble now.

I'm definately not aware of any busing in the Williamsville school district.

There definitely are some people from Buffalo that go to Williamsville North... I know first hand, they certainly live in Buffalo, and they certainly attend North (I could even name names).

NO suburb directly bussees in anyone that lives out side of that city - what the author is saying is that people will scam the system in some instances to attend a suburban school, they put down someone elses address and utilize the school - happens in EVERY single district. As far as trashy people or kids, they are everywhere ..... and sometimes we forget that kids are kids and sometimes make poor choices, it comes with growing up ..... lets not label them and just throw them to the wolves ....... sometimes its not about a bad family, sometimes its just about maturity and growing up and learning ....

I remind you again, chose an affluent suburban district or private school. I don't picture you being a happy camper sending your kids to public school in the city of Buffalo. Even North Buffalo may seem a bit too questionable for you.
By the way, how you parent is by far the norm where I live (Long Island). Sometimes I think its overkill (campared to the way I was raised in WNY) but I it sure beats the other extreme where parents don't care at all.

I too was told to stay away from the schools in Buffalo, but I have 2 pre-school aged children, so at this point, living in No. Buffalo works. We are renting first until we figure out which suburb to search for a house. I figure that it will take me a year to learn where I would be the happiest. It sounds like there are several, several suburbs to choose that offer great schooling as well as safety. I do have a question...I feel like I've heard that Amherst is going downhill...is this true?

Come to the Southtowns, plenty of snow in the winter & endless activities in the summer! Orchard Park, East Aurora, Hamburg, Iroquois, Hamburg/Frontier & Eden are all very good schools (ranked in the WNY top 20). We have affluent neighborhoods as well as very affordable & safe middle class neighborhoods.

That's true in regards to people of color moving into the Sweet Home and Amherst SD's and they have always been quite a few minority families in those districts earlier than other suburban SD's, besides Lackawanna and maybe Williamsville, somewhat.

You might be fine for elementary school if your children are zoned for the Olmsted schools: http://olmstedschool.org/home

I would honestly look to get into Williamsville North, Williamsville South, or Sweethome area. The parents there are generally more affluent, far less likely to be single parents, therefore the children will likely be better influences for yours.
I would say that the best schools in Buffalo are in North Buffalo, but the best in the area by far are in Amherst and Clarence (although they are busing kids from Buffalo in for "racial equality" or some stupid crap like that ). If these people could afford a house in Getzville, they SHOULD be at Williamsville North (and a few minorities in the area can), but if not, they should stay in their own areas.
No matter what, at this point if your children go to public school, they will likely get caught up with trashy people, regardless of your neighborhood.

I used to live in Getzville..Great neighborhood....Great schools!! Can't beat them!! I am hoping to head back that way or Clarence...Excellent schools there also...........more land in Clarence too!

I will be returning to school next year to persue a degree in another field I am interested in, medical.
Things I don't like about my life....My kids growing up too fast. But they have been wonderful children who have never given me any reason to doubt that they will be successful in life.
I also don't like that I am moving, but since I am in a relationship with someone I want to spend the rest of my life with and who has taken my children on as his own from day one, then this is something I should do for him.
I also can't stand my ex-husband, but that's why he's an ex.
There you have it, Happy old me!!! But we all have something in our lives that we're not too fond of. But that's life

See, I knew deep down there was someone nice under that skin!!
