Pull out your flak jacket, the bullets are flying, it took longer than I thought.
Never ever say anything bad about Buffalo or Rochester, or else you are a Communist, a Fascist, a racist, an idiot, and anti-American

To the OP? Why so bitter?
Wow. Now I see the bitterness- a Bostonian. Major attitudes in Boston. Thanks for finally clarifying.
1200.00 for rent? Why don't you just buy a home here. I would move back in a heartbeat to Williamsville/Clarence area but we are stuck on stop in outrageously expensive NJ!! the state where they bleed you dry!! My husband cannot wait to leave!
Be GLAD you don't need air here in the summertime!!! Would you like to trade my 400.00 a month electric bill for a/c running NON stop the whole summer? I never had allergies in Buffalo until I moved HERE *(NJ)*....
The grass is always greener somewhere else, isn't it??

or maybe don't make outlandish untrue statements about these areas like a handful of posters do.

If you are going to accuse me of making untrue statements, maybe you'd like to link to my lies, or at least quote them... I won't hold my breath.
I know outlandish and untrue means anything that isn't a glowing report of what WNY is not doing, right.

The OP isn't bitter, he's just upset at being forced to relocate to Buffalo and he isn't happy, I don't blame him... it's not exactly a popular place to come. The outflow is much higher than the influx of residents, obviously more people desire to leave than to come here, you could say that he is normal to be upset moving here. I honestly don't blame him at all.
This thread has been beaten just about to death, I think. All I can say is that I wish you well TLC, hopefully you can find happiness here, if not, nothing is forever, it doesn't have to be anyway, hopefully you can find happy trails to somewhere that you like.

I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to another poster that comes on here and makes blanket statements about the people from WNY.
but now that you mention it, you are kinda doing the same with your statement about the outflow. Have you taken a poll? How do you know that the people of Buffalo are leaving because they don't want to be there rather than being forced to leave?

It seems like plenty of the same old same old mentality here in Buffalo.
This area does have an excellent group of state colleges. Its a shame my girlfriend and I will be taking our great education to another state to use it.
The financial giant that I currently work for is expanding operations here in Buffalo, and closing up shop in LA, and other high cost areas. The CEO came in and touted to all of us how "cost effective" that Buffalo was. I translated that to people will work for nothing here. So the two areas that they are expanding is Buffalo, and India. They don't offer people real jobs. I am one of the lucky ones, to be a corporate employee. Most of the hiring at my company in Buffalo is $10.50 per hour, no benefits, no insurance, nothing. You work for a temporary agency. If you get sick, or want to take a vacation, you are replaced, because there are tons of people clawing to get a over $10 per hour job.
Its sad. The people who take these $10.50 per hour jobs with no benefits are not idiots for the most part. Many graduated from UB, Buffalo State, and other Colleges. Some have Bachelors, some have Masters degrees, and are swimming in student loan debt.
How many years of that life can a person take before they move away?

The OP obviuosly does not want to live here.
Anyone coming from Boston and Atlanta ( both noted) is used to a big city and we aren't. We are small anbd considerate. I will take that anyday.
Rents are cheaper here and if you take the time, you can easily find a 2-3 BR house for a low rent. A flat is less. You won't get a pool or 2-3 bathrooms, you will get an decent house. (One of my 2 daughters has a great 2BR in S. Buffalo for $450; the other owns her house). Both have radiators and not forced air, so no a/c. Our house has forced air and we have a/c. It's usefulness? Filtering air in high pollen situations!
The OP has kids. Fine, fine a district you want and go look there. Unless you pick the pricy suburbs, you won't have any problem here for anything.
I have a feeling the OP wants a quaint cobblestone area of townhomes which are renovated or huge expanses of new condos.... and the latter can be gotten in the suburbs.
Don't knock the area until you come and spend sometime. I came over 40 years ago and never left. I came from a high population dense area near NYC and now live where we have few people on the road. Not street, road. 6+ miles to any town. Wouldn't have it any other way.
If you hate the place, don't come.

That is one thing that I do enjoy indeed. I have to say that I've driven in the country lots of places, and here is by far the most pleasant (I think that's what you are getting at, maybe I am wrong?) Anyway, I drove from my house (in Getzville) basically from Transit near Klein, all the way to Elma, and I loved the drive. It is rare you find a place where you can drive down the main road of a city, and actually find it pleasant. One thing I love about driving here is driving on surface streets, people are such respectful drivers (can't say I enjoy the highways here, people driving in middle lane and not passing anyone - and folks driving 60mph on 990).
I have to say driving down 400 and in East Aurora towards Holland is truly a hidden for me... as is fishing and camping in Arcade.

I think this is spot on. The problem is the OP wants to live in an area like Williamsville, Clarence or Orchard Park but expects to pay Tonawanda, North Buffalo & Kenmore rent.
It also sounds like the OP's fiance has forced this move upon her. Instead of coming here & trashing Buffalo why not tell your husband how much you really don't want to move to the area?

Drive the back roads to Holland and Arcade - longer, but much nicer. Get a western NY atlas!
