I agree, I think they will like it better than me. But I won't let them know it. I will make the best of it.

I've been following these posts for a while. If it makes the OP feel better, I'm probably as stressed as she is! I'm scared about the moved and worried about the effect it will have on me and my family. I'm a small town girl moving to the city. To me, Buffalo is a large city although others say otherwise. But I am looking at this in the most positive light...it will be a new adventure and I'll have the opportunity to explore the area. I think what is most important is that the people are extremely polite!!!! I love, love that the Buffalonians love the area...I figure if that many people love it so much and are so nice, it has to be a great place...right? Oh, and we found a clean apartment with central air on Craig's List.

Nice area ..... you have the zoo there if you have kids. You also can make it down to the marina in a short drive from there - beautiful on a summers day. If you do I would encourage a family membership. There are other areas around Buffalo that have a smaller feel if that suits you later.
Welcome !!!!!

I was told to stay away from all areas of the city of Buffalo. They said the North side was good, but has since went down and the schools were rough????? Hmmmm, does anyone know what school district that is so I can look it up for myself.
Yeah, this is frustrating when your across the country listening to other people.
Anyone else live in the area that can give me some info?
Thanks

Here are the schools...
high schools 14222 - Google Maps
I would honestly look to get into Williamsville North, Williamsville South, or Sweethome area. The parents there are generally more affluent, far less likely to be single parents, therefore the children will likely be better influences for yours.
I would say that the best schools in Buffalo are in North Buffalo, but the best in the area by far are in Amherst and Clarence (although they are busing kids from Buffalo in for "racial equality" or some stupid crap like that ). If these people could afford a house in Getzville, they SHOULD be at Williamsville North (and a few minorities in the area can), but if not, they should stay in their own areas.
No matter what, at this point if your children go to public school, they will likely get caught up with trashy people, regardless of your neighborhood.

They are not busing in kids from Buffalo into the Sweethome and Amherst Districts, there are just more minorities now that live in those areas. The older parts of Amherst (outside of the affluent areas of Synder) are not that expensive and minorities have taken advantage of the cheaper housing in that area to establish themselves there. Most are working class/middle class, not welfare recipiants.
I'm definately not aware of any busing in the Williamsville school district.

Why are you looking in the City of Buffalo? There are many many suburbs that would suit you better considering the concerns you have. Why don't you look at Clarence, Orchard Park or Hamburg? You don't sound like the kind of person that would enjoy city living.
As for schools you can use this site as your guide: https://www.nystart.gov/publicweb/Co...08&county=Erie
