Castle in Williamsville -- anyone ever been there?
Hi all,
My doctor told me the other day that there is an actual European castle in Williamsville, on an island in the water behind Island Park. She said a family still lives there, but in the past, they never minded people walking up to see the castle. I guess people used to take wedding pictures there, etc.
Has anyone ever seen it/been there? If so, do you walk down the driveway, or do you approach from the water, or what? My son would LOVE to see it (well, so would I :-D) but I don't want to impose on the owners if they are no longer okay with explorers. :-)
Thanks!

How long ago was that? Do you know if they're still cool about people coming out to see it?

I believe they used to give tours, but my understanding is they no longer invite visitors. We have seen the castle from the water (by kayak), but would not approach by land. As I stated, I believe the people who reside there (and there are differing lights on in rooms of the castle) do not welcome visitors any longer.

My great great Aunt Onilee lives there with her cousin. I was there last year. They are in their ninties and do not accept visitors any more. I am planning on visisting them on Sat 10/10. I will see how they are doing and see if they will accept visitors.
i will go thru my pictures & find the ones that I have and down load them for you. The castle is very historic as well as run-down. I say that it is run down but still exquisite and fun to explore. My granduaghter(15) is absolutely captivated by the castle. She hides on me when we have to go home. I wish everyone could visit this castle. The castle was built by my grand father and his brother. The castle had a terrible fire and was almost destroyed. The two brothers re-built the castle. I hpe this helps you and feel free to ask me any more questions. It is a very magical place

^What they said. I love old, historical buildings, I'd love to see some photos!
Thank you for the beautiful back story, I'm sorry to hear about the tragic fire and I'm glad the entire structure wasn't destroyed.
