Decent Areas to Live
Hi all, I'm looking to buy a house in Buffalo and was wondering if anyone would have suggestions on where to look.
I don't want to spend more than 80k or so, and don't want to pay more than 2k in taxes. Ideally, I'd like to live in a neighbor that's relatively safe, and in one where I wouldn't have to worry about getting broken into/robbed.
I was thinking about the Abbot McKinley area. Does anyone have any information about this area, or others that fit my description? I'd appreciate info on good streets and streets to avoid if possible.
Thanks

Abbott McKinley, South Abbott & Caz Park are nice as well as affordable areas. You can find a home in your price & tax range rather easily in this area. It is by far the safest Buffalo neighborhood/area in this price range. I would avoid most areas west of McKinley Parkway (though there are some nice areas there as well but it will give you a bit of a buffer zone from some of the bad areas), the closer to Cazenovia Park the better. Stay away from West Seneca (which borders some of this area) because the taxes skyrocket as soon as you cross the boundary (they also rise in Lackawanna but not as extreme as in West Seneca).

The McKinley Street area is a decent place to live. Unfortunately, crime is everywhere, not just in the city but the suburbs as well. HTH.

You are going to pay more than $2000 in taxes here. There's no way around that, we have a ridiculous government that enjoys taxing WNY to death.
But look on the bright side, you will pay $3000 per year in taxes, and some bum will get unemployment, welfare, SSI, TANF, etc for a year on your dime... Wait, did I say bright side? There is no bright side to our terrible taxation situation.
My advice: Stay away from Buffalo if you don't LOVE giving the government your money - or if you want to get a well paying job. Just stay away from Buffalo if you can, actually.

Hey flamer how about doing some research next time ..... In the area they asked about the taxes are roughly $1600 to $1900 per 80K-90K of property value.

Sometimes you write the most idiotic things. Unemployment, if a guy gets laid off, he's a bum because his job was downsized? If a woman get injured and can't work anymore, how is she a bum for taking the SSI that she paid into all her life? Welfare & TANF are temporary assistance programs, not lifetime benefits. These aren't limited to just city of Buffalo, it's all either county, state, or federal funding. By your post alone, you have tried to persuade someone not to move to Buffalo with misguided reasons of "bums on welfare", which isn't true at all. Yes, I'm tired of the wasteful taxation (like paying for a football team), but never would I try to discourage any positive additions to our city population.

Someone will have to fill in the neighborhood for me. My sis lives near the Elementary school on Tacoma. Close to Delaware ave. She has had good luck and feels it safe to raise a kid.

I have to graduate
But I can't wait! This city is so horrible, I can't even describe it. If Buffalo were completely abandoned, nothing of value would be lost.
