I mean no offense but WHY?! Why soo many forums on leaving or staying in Buffalo? i love how people can come together and talk about our city, but constantly seeing forums about leaving and coming. It's a waste of space.

I agree, Jazzy Jeff. Perhaps it's an outlet for venting.

I have no idea. There are more about leaving here than most. I just made the one, because someone did that in the Mississippi forum, and it was very interesting to see the results. I think that seeing the percentage of people planning on leaving is very useful to prospective residents. In the Mississippi forum 70% of people said they wanted to leave, so it help me decide that I wouldn't want to live there.
In Buffalo the results are mixed, so perhaps not so useful, but still, more people will vote on that one, and the results ought to be useful.
But if you look at some other boards all you will see is "New to the area, etc. etc."

Funny that you like Springfield since like Buffalo, it is an old blue collar city that has seen better times. You frequently mentioned Buffalo's crime rate in other posts but didn't realize that though Springfield is nowhere near the most dangerous city in the US (and Buffalo isn't either), it still has a fairly high crime rate and high poverty rate. Ok, there may be more Republicans over that side of MA since I saw many McCain/Palin signs out there last year and you might like that. I have nothing against Springfield though I'd prefer to move to Buffalo if I had to move because it seems more of an interesting city. Its lakeside location suits me well too.

I don't care about the politics, but Springfield is very clean, they cleaned up the waterfront very well. It's just an attractive city.
I wouldn't ever move to Massachusetts, I was just saying that it's my favorite place in NE (I do actually prefer Buffalo to any city in NE, any day). I can't get over how strong an accent there in Massachusetts, especially Boston, it's just as noticeable as a Louisiana accent.

As far as New England towns go Ive always been fond of Portsmouth, NH. Small coastal town but close enough to Boston that its not too big of a deal to head into the city for entertainment.

Springfield has a waterfront? You mean the banks of the Connecticut River?

Doesn't Springfield have a pretty bad gang violence problem? I thought I heard/read something about that recently?

I would really like to move to New York State. Have looked a little in the Buffalo or Niagara Falls area. Also like the Allegheny area. Have been to most of New York except the northern part of the state (above Syracuse) and love everything I see. Looking for a retirement home in fair proximity to Veteran Facilities. Like to visit NYC but can't afford to live very close. Looking for a place with "hills", water, and trees. Tried to get a realtor to help but not much success. I am a conservative liberal independent open minded individual with a grown family. Coming from Texas where the summers are HOT. Have researched various (former research analyst and computer specialist) so I have a little data to look at, such as weather, population distribution, and economy. Would like some data with the "human" touch. :-) Thanks in Advance to anyone that responds. TX
Any suggestions? Information? Sources for real estate? Data on NY?

It sounds like you're looking for a rural area to settle down, plenty of spaces to choose from down in the southern teir (of NYS). Allegheny comes to mind first, it's the best of all seasons. This link has lots of information Visit Allegany County, New York HTH. It's always happy to hear of people looking to New York.
