Move or stay in Western New York??
Hey, Hey.... anyone who doesn't like living in Western New York should go out an find someplace that resonates with them. No one wants you to be unhappy!!! Those of us who like living here know it's not perfect and we're willing to stay and work on the issues. You're not going to find "Nirvana" on this planet so expect to find things you're not happy with no matter where you go. Please, don't stay somewhere you "hate". Thankfully, everyone is different, so find out what you want and move to accomplish that vision. This is a very big country and there's something for everyone. For those who like it here, great, we love having you here; for those who don't, get off your duffs and do something about it!!! You'll be happier in the end and I hope you find what you're looking for!!!

So whats your point? Don't criticize Buffalo's flaws?
FWIW, I am moving. I don't even care if I have a job lined up or not. I have $8000 in savings and I can live off that for 3-4 months. (I'm guessing I will have about $20,000 once I move, so I should have almost 8 months living paid for.

Sure, we are moving as well.
But I won't move without a job, and finding one out of state in this economy is pretty tough.
My girlfriend and I are both college educated, and work in the Financial Industry...

Go enjoy the fiery hot sun, those of you who want to leave Buffalo or the Northeast for all the matter. As mentioned in another post, I'd be glad to take anyone's place in Buffalo if I don't stay in Boston. I like snow, I like cold winters, I don't expect to earn a lot of money and I'm not greedy for big money. As a future urban planner, I want to find some place with great potential and needs a lot of help and care.

Canerican, the point is, I tried to add that note to another board that as it turns out, you were there yet again complaining about living in Buffalo. Sure you can express your displeasure with living here. In fact, I have family that checks this board for other cities when they are planning to move to another area. If they see three or more people complaining about the same thing, they know to look elsewhere. But... it takes more than one person, venting or constantly complaining about the same thing over and over. You've made your point.
I'm sure we're all very happy for you, as you seem thrilled about moving out. Be happy. I don't remember reading that anyone thought this area was the be all and end all of cities. We know there are problems and we choose to stay and try to make changes. If you think you're not going to find problems wherever it is you're moving to then you're in for a very rude awakening. But... you may find the exact place you need and want to be. We hope everyone who is displeased living here gets the opportunity to make another choice. If you're also blessed enough that you don't have to worry about working for the next 8 months, then be grateful and do something wonderful with your life. Have a great trip and best wishes for a fantastic future.
For those who are planning on moving to this area, you're very welcome here. I'm originally from New England and I never thought I'd like living in Western New York. The people here are fantastic. Attitude is everything!!! This is an adventure and nothing is written in stone.

To Emerald Hope: Where in New England did you come from? What made you decide to move to Buffalo might I ask? I'm just curious to know.

Urban, I'm from Connecticut and have family in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. My father lived in Springfield, MA and I went to school just over the border in Enfield. LOVE NEW ENGLAND!! My husband was transfered here in 1972. We were supposed to be here for 5 years and then we were to move to another State with the company. (Husband is from the Thousand Islands) Well, here we're still in Western New York and it is definately home.

Springfield is a very nice city. Probably my favorite in New England outside of Nashua and Manchester.

my question is why are there so many forums about moving, or coming back, or leaving, the city?! Can't we have just one forum for all that

Good question. I made the first one. I am flattered that so many decided to imitate me
