I wish we got 200!
I never did understand the big deal with people on this board pointing out that Hamburg & Orchard Park get 10-15 inches more than Amherst. If you already average 85-90 whats a few more inches (or even a foot)???? Its not like posters are directing the OP to move to Colden or something.

I LOVE SPORTS!! Love them. I have become a huge Memphis Grizzlies fan upon moving here and go to as many games as I can. I love football (college) and College Basketball! I love riding bikes and everyone says that it is a big thing in Buffalo, my question is what do people do in the Winter? Ski everywhere, forgive my ignorance on this one. My wife and I love Sushi so when I was in LA and New York I was in heaven. We also are into walking with our dogs and just enjoying outdoors stuff. I have NEVER snow skied and am sure I would fall in love with it.

Canisus, Niagara & UB all play D1 basketball but the nearest traditional power would obviously be Syracuse (about 2 hours away). UB plays FBS football but that's about it for the area (I guess Syracuse still tries to play ). Its not too big of a deal to travel down to State College, PA or Columbus, Ohio every now & then to take in a higher profile game if that is something that interests you. The NBA seems to be non existent in Buffalo, not only do we not have a team but very few people seem to care about the league (that's the impression I get anyway). You can be in Toronto in a little over an hour & Raptors tickets can typically be had for cheap. Cleveland is only a little over 2 hours away but as long as King James is a Cav tickets there are going to be a little harder to come by. We do have a minor league baseball team (AAA affiliate of the NY Mets). I attended a few games this past year, it was both enjoyable & inexpensive. Bills & Sabres tickets can be found at or near face value for most games.
We don't have anything like Beale St but Chippewa & Elmwood are both very good entertainment options. The music scene is very much alive in Buffalo.
I know their are several Sushi Bars in the area but I can't really speak to the quality.
As for the snow, well unless you are seriously turned off by thought of it I wouldn't worry about it too much. Get yourself a good 2 stage snowblower, a 4wd vehicle & a warm winter jacket & you'll be fine. It does get cold here but its not like December hits & we stay at or below zero for several months straight. Mid 20's to high 30's are pretty much the most common daytime highs. Don't get me wrong, you'll get stretches when it will be -5 for a high (but you'll also see the 40's & low 50's about as often).

Data Released today:
The typical home sold in the Buffalo area last month went for $114,900. That's 4 percent higher than the median price of $110,000 in September 2008.

When you are talking precipitaion in inches where Buffalo gets in the 33-38 inch range and Memphis gets over 50 inches that a pretty big deal, it's something on the order of 40% more precip in Memphis compared to Buffalo or Niagara.
If you don't like snow move to Lewiston - they average about half of what the Buffalo airport gets - the wonders of being below the escarpment and east of land instead of lake :-)

My point is its the cold , not only the snow that is tough..look, summer in buffalo is gorgeous. I have a brother and my in-laws there so we visit 2 - 3 times a year. I love it. Winter is cool for me too because I like the cold. Hell, I told my in-laws if there were any jobs there I'd consider moving. But a person from L.A. to Memphis who has never been up north is in for a system shock. Hey, they may love it! But they should know its nothing like they have experienced...

My point is it's not just the temps and snow one considers but also the annual total precipitation. If you click on the precip button on the links I posted you will see that for 11 of the 12 mothns Memphis has considerable more precip than WNY for the other (September) it is a virtual tie.
The links also show that your statement that there are four months a year where our temps stay below freezing is simply incorrect. The mover can look at the real data not your impression and draw their own conclusions. This is WNY after all and not Minneapolis, Milwaukee or even Chicago where the average winter temps are significantly below ours. Minneapolis for example has January temps that average some 20 degrees below ours (if I recall correctly).
That's why I put in the links - the mover can check for himself to see if the weather is too cold for his tastes. The couple moving are the only ones that can answer that question - but when they read misinformation such as it stays below freezing for a third of the year it can lead them to make a decision that they might not make if properly informed.

Ok on the precip..I disagree with on the cold. Its not only the cold but the constantly cloudy weather in winter that takes getting used to. Oh, and 20 degree difference? maybe up north of Duluth... Like I said, there are many people here in Carolina that could never take that weather. My goal with my posts is to make certain the OP understood the massive change in weather they are about to embark on.

You guys rock! I know that it is going to be COLD, COLD, COLD! I honestly did not think after spending my first Summer in Memphis that I could survive! Guess what this last summer was cake. I know that heat and cold take adjustment but I am sure that we can survive. I have been in sales for the last seven years where I constantly get in and out of a car all day while wearing a suit!! Talk about uncomfortable. I am sure we will be fine somehow. Toronto is really only an hour away? I guess I just want to have the option to take my son to a few games from time to time, so that sounds great. I can't stand Syracuse, sorry I can't! Beat my Jayhawks a few years ago to win the NCAA title and I can't forgive them for that!

Closer to an hour & a half depending on traffic, border crossing times, weather, what part of the Buffalo area you live in, etc.
