We have more sunny days out of the 365 days per year than that sunny mecca known as Orlando Florida. Once again a tired old myth about Buffalo cannot stand up to empirical evidence
Souce: the sunshine derby on the weather page of the Buffalo News every single day. They keep a running total.
Or if you are intersted in the summer

It's very dependent upon where in the metro you live. In the winter places like Niagara Falls, Lewiston and Youngstown are much more sunny than places to the south. The reason is that those of us up north get neither the Lake Effect snow or clouds from Lake Erie. We can't because to our west is the Niagara Peninsula and not Lake Erie. We can look to our south and see the cloud line. Sometimes the cloud lines are so intense they look like mountains on the horizon. Very pretty indeedy! If you want sun in the winter move to the northern sections of the metro such as Lewiston, or Lockport, both are a half hour or less from downtown Buffalo and Lewiston is only an hour from downtown Toronto - not counting the time it takes to go through customs.
Just by way of a full year comparison. Last year the Buffalo area had 50 some more Sunny Days for the entire year than did Orlando Florida. This was reported in the Buffalo News and was based upon weather Service data. They defined Sunny Days as any day where more than 50% of the daylight hours were sunny. That was for the full year and not just the Summer months.
BTW the same section of the weather page also shows that we get clobbered in the sunshine derby by Phoenix

Just for kicks here is a map showing average snofall. As you can see most of Niagara County averages between 50-60 inches while Buffalo averages 90-100 and the southern suburbs get up to 180 inches per year. Quite a huge difference for areas pretty much within a 45 minute drive of each other.

If that is indeed accurate, it's a fluke. Look at the sunshine graphs from City Data for each. Orlando has better than 60% sunny days year round. Buffalo only tops 60% 3 months of the year - Buffalo gets killed by Orlando. Summers are nice, but fall through spring are dreary and at times, quite depressing.
I remember about 4 years back in January when we went over 30 days without sunshine.
