Well threads evolve, we don't always stay 100% on topic. But here's a go at it.
Best place to live in WNY... My favorite is probably towards Livingston County, pretty rural, but very nice, lots of really nice folks. Other than that, I really like where I live, besides the tax situation. I live off Millersport in Getzville, great location, easy access to UB, 290, 990, Transit, Maple, and NFB... All the places I go to the most often. Really nice neighbors, every keeps their house clean, almost no parties, never heard of crime here until two break ins last year (the people were caught, and it turns out were actually 4 black students bused in to Williamsville North from North Buffalo, so not from the area).

"I really like where I live, besides the tax situation."
Most people feel the exact same way about Buffalo.

In all honesty, if guns were easier to get, taxes were 1/2 what they are, and there were jobs available (good jobs, that is) I wouldn't be looking for another city.
I might prefer warmer weather, but I really like Cincy, and it gets snow.

If there is anyone else out there, I'd like to know how you'd answer this question as well. Please feel free to get it back on track at anytime.
Thanks!

I would say Lewiston. 1/2 hour from downtown Buffalo, 1 hour from Toronto, great walkable shopping district, nice upscale homes, great restaurants, Artpark, the river. Less than half the snow that the Buffalo Airport gets in fact less snow than most of the suburbs of Boston or Chicago get, and terrific grapes.

Lewiston is cool but thravel time to TO may be 2 and a half hours. One hour drive plus an hour and a half on the bridge!

Well I dont know about the first two issues but if you could give Buffalo another year or two, it seems the jobs may be comming. Youve waited, what, like 5 years? Why not one more?

Can I ask what you know that makes you think that Buffalo will have jobs in a year or two? Bass Pro? Medical corridor? Or is there some other reason that we are going to transform in the next year or two?

The sudden spur in construction and growth for one. Yahoo is comming to Buffalo as well and you hear more and more about how companies are moving to Buffalo every week. Nothing breeds ecnomic success like job growth and I predict that Buffalo will see its fair share.

Ok but I think you are being overboard optomistic.
Yahoo 80 jobs or so. Medical corridor? Taxes and politics will win the day here. New business will be attracted by tax free periods or low cost power. Means yours and my taxes will go up
I appreciate your optimism, I just cant share it having been here too long and looking to leave now.
Take care

Don't you realize that even if new businesses pay no taxes the region's tax base will still go up? New jobs = more money due to personal income taxes and sales tax and less government expenditures to those on the welfare rolls. Meaning 'your' and 'my' taxes could conceivably go down. (Of course politicians will only see a surplus as an opportunity to spend more)
I think your attitude is typical of the folks around here. We're so over-taxed we direct our angst towards companies and their supposed deep pockets. After all, shouldn't they be paying their "fair share?" (Which of course means disproportionately more so that we'll have to pay less. So businesses close up and move out and we're left further in the hole than when we started)
Instead, we should be directing our rage towards the government. They need to cut spending so that you, I and businesses alike may pay less taxes. The problem isn't business, the problem is government. Oh, and unions.
