Considering to move to Buffalo from NC
Hi guys,
I am currently living in NC and I might accept a job offer in Buffalo, but I was wondering if my husband would be able to find a job out there...He is going to be a networking technology graduate with about 2 years of IT managment experience. Does anybody know how hard it is to find jobs in IT in the Buffalo area?
Thanks!

We hired a young woman in August that moved here from the Raleigh area. So far she and her husband are loving it. We also had another transplant this summer from the Baltimore area. What is your specific area of expertise?

Extremely hard. Most graduates leave Buffalo when they are done with college due to the lack of decent jobs. It doesn't matter your field, there are almost no jobs here, and most people move away quickly when they discover how lame this area is.

I work in research/health care. We'll move there only if I'll get a good offer...But I would like to put everything in balance before I accept it... And of course one of the criterias is my husband being able to find a job in his field.

Actually, healthcare is the one sector that is doing well. If your husband is in that field, he should find a job no problem.
Any other sector, (including high tech) I would say good luck.

Research/health care will not be a problem at all. Perhaps your husband should check out Yahoo, they have a facility under construction about 7 miles north of the University at Buffalo North Campus. The Yahoo site is expected to open sometime around May I believe. There are also many companies with large IT departments - a few that I am personally aware of are M&T, Tops Markets and Mattel.

Wow!! I'm making the exact opposite move! I hope you're prepared for the long and VERY cold winters and high(er) taxes! Make sure (if you haven't already) that you come visit to scope Buffalo out before you make your decision to move... Good luck to both of you!
