I know that Buffalo Public Schools has school choice where I can apply for lottery, etc but in case I don't get the school of my choice, how do I find out what my default public school would be? The BPS website is very hard to navigate and I can't find a link.
Or are there no default schools and you automatically get one of your top choices? I can't image that would work out evenly. How likely are you to get your top choices (perhaps Elwood Village charter or Bennett Montessori).
My husband has had interviews in the area and we might be moving here so I'd like to have the research done asap. My daughter would start kindergarten in 2011 and I think we'd be living in Elmwood Village.
Thank you in advance, especially if the link is something very obvious on the district website and I just can't figure it out.

If you are going to live in the city, then look at Olmsted (#64), Discovery school, Tapestry Charter, P.S. #81 and maybe a few others. Here's a good place to look for elementary schools in the city of Buffalo: Schools in Buffalo City School District | GreatSchools
Thank you for the link. I will definitely look into some more schools. But I am trying to find out what school we'd go to if we DIDN'T get into a school we wanted. Here in Chicago we can go to the CPS site and type in our address and we get the name of our neighborhood school, where we'd go if we didn't apply to a magnet school. Does that make sense? Or do you have to apply to all schools, say listing the Top 10 and we automatically get one of those 10?

Ah, thanks! Do you know if the school closest to you is automatically your default school? Here it's not always the case, it depends on zoning issues.
Not sure, but you could possibly contact the Buffalo Public School offices for further information. I would think that putting in for the nearest charter schools to the Elmwood village neighborhood like Elmwood Village and Tapestry or try to get into schools further north like P.S. 81 and Olmsted. North Buffalo is an area of the city that is recommended to people quite bit if they want to live in the city of Buffalo. Around Hertel Ave. would be a good place to look, as P.S. 81 and Olmsted are in that area and you can still try to get into Elmwood Village or Tapestry. You also would be pretty close to the Elmwood Village area too, as Hertel and Elmwood intersect in North Buffalo.
