I recently got in and am trying to make a final decision on whether to go to SUNY Buffalo (UB) or SUNY Albany.
Is Buffalo diverse? How expensive is it to live there? Do you have to drive to Toronto or Niagara Falls for something to do, or are there things of interest there for young professionals? And neighborhoods, what are the neighborhoods like in the Buffalo/Amherst area?
Buffalo is a diverse city with a good nightlife for it's size. You would probably like the Elmwood Village neighborhood or North Buffalo for younger professionals. Maybe Allentown too. Night spots are open until 4 AM and Chippewa Street seems to be the place to be.
Buffalo is an affordable area and out of the major Upstate metro areas, it's probably one of the most affordable besides maybe Syracuse.
I currently live in Burlington, VT and have only been as far west into New York as Lake Placid. I think I'm going to choose Buffalo after a lot of thought.
i went to UB as an undergrad and i would say it is pretty diverse and very cheap to live that is if you live off campus, niagara falls is about 30 mins away from campus, toronto about 2 hours away. as someone said nightlife is pretty good, there isnt much to do, there are your malls, your restaurants and so on but elmwood village is really nice you should check that out. beware of south campus at nights, its in a pretty bad neighborhood.

I think the OP would actually love the vibe of Elmwood Village and Delaware Park. Allentown has some things going on, as does
