there are two of us. both nurses. We are looking to get to a safe, clean and reasonably fair housing market. We want to rent for a year to see if it is where we want to be.
1) can anyone recommend a city/town (Burlington)
2) who would we contact to get information on renting a home (not apt/condo)

we would like to be close to Fletcher Allen hospital and am not sure if we are asking for too much. We have 15-1900/month we would like to do.

thanks

Nurses are always in demand. In addition to Fletcher Allen you could probably find work at Central Vermont Hospital just outside of Montpelier or Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury (they're always looking for psych nurses).

You can do pretty well in your price range. Maybe not Burlington, but the surrounding towns, or possibly even as far as Waterbury.

In addition to craigslist I would tell you to look at Seven Days, Vermont's alternative weekly. Seven Days | Vermont's Independent Voice.

Do you have jobs already or are you looking? I work at FAHC. If you have ICU experience or an interest in ICU send me a PM. Otherwise the hospital has what it has termed, a "hiring frost." It is a bit complicated, but it is between hiring and a hiring freeze. Internal applicants get the preference. If the hospital or the ICU does not work for you, the VNA and the like have opportunities.
If you need a two bedroom at that price, it may be tough to find a decent place in Burlington. You will also be competing with returning college students within a few weeks.

Thanks for correcting my misinformation.

I work at FAHC too. There seems to be a merry-go-round of hiring at the moment, RNs simply moving floors.

I don't think it was misinformation. There is potential to hire from the outside, just not as easy as from within.
Just as a side note. There is a shortage in healthcare, but if you look at most hospital job openings, they are not a available as many would think. The real shortages are in home care as well as outpatient services.

Live in South Burlington. Prime location - rent will be around $1500+ for a house in South Burlington. Depends what your price is...if you want cheaper - try Essex Junction/Colchester/Shelburne but I wouldn't do Winooski!

Don't forget that Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is just across the CT river. I had an easy 50 min commute from East Topsham, VT. There are many towns in VT from which you can commute to DHMC. I believe they are the largest employer in the CT River Valley.
