Post Your Thoughts On Basing F-35 Jets In South Burlington

I haven't seen this discussed, and didn't even know it was an issue until getting into the area yesterday and catching it on the evening news. Anyway, apparently the Yes and No groups are debating as to whether they want the Vermont National Guard to base and fly the new F-35 jet out of South Burlington.

Of course there are plenty of pros and cons each way such as it's sure to provide jobs, but you also get the horrendous noise and jet fuel/exhaust getting pumped into the air.

So what's the thoughts on this? I was actually looking at Vermont to get away from this sort of thing.

The F-4s with full afterburners were loud. The only problem we had with those was the middle of the night training exercises scheduled by some perverse dimwit who felt they were "the sound of freedom" and good public relations going off on full burners at 2AM and 4 AM. It is actually pretty neat to watch them take off, and they weren't a daily scheduled flight so aside from sometimes making it impossible to think they were fine.

Understand also that back that close to the end of the cold war, the sound of military planes rushing into the air in the middle of the night had a lot different connotation than it does now.

South Burlington - Burlington International Airport. This would be an aircraft "upgrade".
I live in the flight path, though not too close to the airport. Close enough that I can see which airline the plane is though and I'm all for it. I support our Guard and our Air Force and would love to see those planes here.

The airport in South Burlington. According to the National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR), the F-35 is likely to use less afterburner and carry out longer sorties (ie. fewer take offs and landings) due to its improved operational radius. The F-16 puts out 114 dB with afterburner compared to the 115 dB from the F-35 with afterburner. The F-16 uses considerably more afterburner than what the F-35 would use.
Then there is the possibility or the probability of over 200 jobs added to the area. I personally enjoy watching them myself. Though I'm not an Air Force man, there was nothing more comforting than the sound of an A-10 or an F4 coming in.

All for it. Freedom has a price, this one is worth it in my opinion. The jobs are also very welcome as well.
