Anyone headed to IKEA or know of a pick up/delivery service to Burlington VT? The IKEA store shipping costs have gone off the scale. We are in need of sink vanity in the next two weeks for construction completion .. and IKEA charges $349 in shipping from Boston!! It doesn't let me ship from Montreal.

If anyone can help ... it would be appreciated it.

Some sellers on Ebay will do specific pick up and shipping for you. If they sell only Ikea stuff contact them and find out. I've bought a lot of things this way to dodge the high shipping. Still looking at $70+ shipping, but way better than $300+!

Ikea must be making a killing off shipping...we purchased a significant amount of office furniture/etc, and we paid the shipping fee, because in the end it was still cheaper than anything else we looked at. But, because we live on a dirt road, and they have a tractor trailer, we had to meet them off the interstate and put everything in our car and bring it home. And we were not the only person who had to meet them...there was one other person picking up some stuff and for all I know, they continued on to the Burlington area to drop off more stuff. Insane.

Good to know Dippylou - I will check it out.

tkln - how sad you had to pay the shipping fee AND go pick it up off a tractor trailer!

I am actually on the west coast or I'd just take a quick trip to Montreal. It would seem that shipping from Montreal would be way more reasonable ... I don't quite understand why the IKEA site doesn't allow interntional shipping. Maybe it is something that can be done via calling the store. I'll check that out tomorrow.

I was just going to ask if you were in VT 'cause its a fairly quick jaunt up to the Boucherville store outside of Montreal.
I've considered ordering a couple things in the past but shipping costs put the stop to that.
Keep us posted!

I think the import duty is the main problem with shipping from Canada.

You know, I've been looking for a number of pieces that I'd like from Ikea, but haven't been willing to stump up the $350 delivery charge, and don't have time to go down there.

If anyone is out there who'd like to order too, I'd love to split the delivery charge with you. I live in Chittenden County and work from home so will be here for a truck delivery.

I'm willing to wait several months, so if you're reading this as an old post, still shoot me a message!

There is so much traffic from New Jersey to burlington i am sure you can find a student or someone if you are not in a time rush and can post on craigslist.

There is an ikea in northern NJ very close to the start of the NY thruway. when i lived in vermont i would always fill up on cheap fuel in NJ and shop. No target either in vermont so NJ is the best with low taxes I always see vermont plates at the garden state plaza mall in NJ filling up on stuff before they head back

If you are in a time rush then your gonna be tough to find someone. why not just buy local, ikea quality is built for short term use. I would always buy ikea when i was starting my career and moving every 2-3 years but now that im settled i think ikea is a horrible value its only great for short term use then just starts breaking. The amount your gonna pay for someone to pickup would be money you can invest in a more quality item. Trust me i have owned alot of ikea furniture its excellent for 1-3 years use its ultra cheap construction thats how they get the price so low to you but i wouldn't install in a house im gonna live in for a while

fyi northeastcoaster .. the OP was from over a year ago ... problem was solved . I am picky about what I buy from IKEA, and have been very happy with those pieces for many years. IKEA's sleek modern style is the primary attraction - hard to find much of a local selection ... and definitely not at a reasonable price.
