Mac's in Essex Junction is a very nice little supermarket with a good range of organic/whole grain/healthy/locally sourced foods at prices probably comparable to WF. Still looking for halloumi btw, give me a shout if you see any

Looks like Whole Foods has dropped their plan for the South Burlington store.

"We are no longer moving forward with our plans for the South Burlington location on account of challenges with the site that the developer faced.

Another example of the ridiculous amount of regulation businesses face here. The retail space around here is just pathetic - incredibly old and dated and the little that there is very overcrowded. You have to be insane to venture into Costco any given weekend.

I know the site that Whole Foods was looking at...it's a good one location wise. But the access situation they proposed was horrible. It would have been a traffic disaster. They really need to access the site through the Holiday Inn to make it work but the owner of the Holiday Inn didn't want to negotiate (from what I understand).
I'm sure we'll see another Whole Foods proposal...my guess would be Williston. Though there are a few empty spaces I would think they could negotiate...the Kmart Plaza (though I believe Hannaford Bros owns that and I doubt they'd want a supermarket in there) and a couple car dealer buildings down Shelburne Road.
We'll see. I'd personally be very happy if Target and Trader Joe's finally gets in here.

Gutted about WF not making it this time and yes please to a Trader Joe's too. I'd even settle for one in Concord so it could be a day trip.

Burlington has City Market, Healthy Living, and possibly smaller stores I don't know about. (I live in Rutland and shop primarily at the Rutland Co-op and Farmers Market.) I wouldn't bother with a Whole Foods if it came to Vermont.

"I don't know; is it an African or European swallow"??

Anyway, its nickname of "Whole Paycheck" is well-deserved...

The Healthy Living store is virtually identical to a Whole Foods.
