Default Federal housing programs

I have been considering working for the federal government. I know there are Housing Assistance/loans/grant programs in most states/cities for their employees, but I can't find anything from the U.S. government for federal employees when I google it. I'm pretty sure they exist. Do anybody know of one? I have not bought my first home yet and I would probably scratch the feds from consideration if they don't have any housing programs for their employees.

I looked into a housing development program awhile ago, got into the paperwork and my head was rolling. While I understood the whole program, the paperwork was just astronomical.. That program was LIHTC programs. Involved renovating gutted properties using tax credits that you would sell to investors. Whole process had me just amazed at how many programs are out there that people are paying for to make rich people richer.
