I'll tell you all about it ILNC, but first let's see who else we've got in on the conversation...
I'll bet dollars to doughnuts we've got other BNI people here.
BNI, anyone?

No, I'm not a member but I went to two meetings and considered joining. I wonder why you asked that question. Is there something about BNI that I should know about? As far as I know, it's a completely respectable network of professionals. Your input will be appreciated.

Thanks Liz! I asked out of sheer enthusiasm. BNI has helped me build my business dramatically and it's still as much fun as ever, 3 and a half years later. BNI works better for some professions/trades/businesses than others. But in general, I'd say that your attitude and the quality of the particular chapter are the 2 biggest factors which would predict whether or not it would work well for you. What do you do, Liz? Did you visit one chapter or more than one? What kept you from applying?
3 and a half years ago, the closest BNI chapter was more than a hundred miles away, so I helped start a chapter, because the basic concept just seemed to make sense. Now I get 40-60 percent of my business as personal referrals directly from people I see regularly who have made a personal referral through my BNI chapter.
BNI is a business and professional networking referral organization created for the sole purpose of helping members increase the amount and quality of referral business they do. 3 and a half years ago, the closest chapter was so far away that I wasn't able easily to visit one and see how it worked. NOW - there are 6 chapters in my county, and there are more forming here.
The concept is very simple, but the genius is in the structure and implementation (or "execution" as the sports fans would say).
The guy who dreamed up BNI wrote his doctoral dissertation on BNI, as I understand it.
If anybody is interested, I'd be happy to post more about how it works, but I'll wait and see if anybody is interested...

Alaska and Vermont were the last two states in the nation with BNI chapters.
There are chapters in 36 countries now - I've visited several while on vacation, and I'm hoping to visit a BNI chapter in Rome this Summer...

I've been invited numerous times to attend meetings, but haven't been to one as of yet.

Just thought I'd have a look and see if anybody had posted on this thread.
...never made it to Rome. Missed my chance in Edinburgh...
