Question Bake Sale Events

I was thinking about raising some money on the side through occasional bake sale events. I've got a lot of custom recipes that I crafted over the years and would like to put them to use in the realm of enterprise. The idea would be to sell cookies, fudges, wrapped cake slices and homemade candies.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for carrying out bake sales or sales offering edible items period? If the foods are homemade, would a license be required for setting up shop occasionally?

Depends on your geographic location and also the level of enforcement. I think every state has very strict rules about anything dealing with food/food products. We had someone get in a lot of trouble for selling processed foods at a farmer's market last year. Just make one person have an issue (real or perceived) and often it can raise quite a stink.

I dont mind buying home made at a church or school event, but I would raise an issue with the authorities about anyone selling homemade from a home or non commercial setting. Way too many issues with safety and health issues.

Most states have some pretty strict regulations on food sales for profit. Fundraising bake sale type things are different. I know around here you have to have a certificate from the department of heath to sell food made in your own home. They inspect your home and have certain regulations you must meet.
