They're not the only ones. I work for a nationally known tax preparation service, and you wouldn't believe what people think we know! I could really kick George's backside for this.

Why don't you? It's all about customer service, and I've looked things up on the IRS website to answer questions...to use their EITC and ESR calculators...anywhere I needed to go to get the information I needed to help them!

Customer service. Pride in your job.

That's just it, most of the calls weren't from customers. They want free tax advice and more. "How much will I get?" Me: "I can't answer that. It is based on your tax liability of your adjusted gross income"

"When will mine arrive?" Me: "Using the last two digits of your SS number, you can find out on the IRS site."

"Can you change my filing status to direct deposit so I can get my rebate faster?" Me: "No."
"Why not?" Me: "Because we would have to file an amendment, which would only hold up your return that much longer."

And to the posters who suggested a google search, or the IRS website: YES! I've suggested the IRS site in another thread. You can find out everything you need to know. Maybe some don't have internet access, but I suspect many just want an instant answer without having to go to the trouble of looking it up for themselves.
