Health Insurance Transfers
We're considering relocating out of NJ, and also starting a new business. This would mean I'd be giving up the corporate health insurance policy my family is currently covered under, and getting an individual plan (family).
As I understand it, the insurance regulations in NJ say that a company cannot deny you coverage if you've been previously covered by another company within the past 90 days. I believe they also can't charge you a higher premium due to pre-existing conditions (though I'm not sure on that one).
I've heard that in many other states, previous coverage does not guarantee you coverage under a new plan. Is there a place/website/way to determine what states this may be an issue in?
I'd hate to move someplace and then find out I can't get coverage because of some pre-existing conditions, or that I'm going to pay some outrageous amount over the company's standard rates.
Thanks in advance,
Bob
