I would suggest one of Dave Ramsey's books on personal finance. The contents are straightforward and effective. The focus is based on planning, discipline, and common sense approaches to managing your finances.

i will second the dave ramsey suggestion, my parents started me out on that track at a very young age and made me manage my own allowance. i always had the option to borrow from next week if i wanted to see 2 movies in one weekend instead of one but when the money was gone it was gone so i learned quickly to live within my means. i bought my first house when i was 22....

This is a great thread but really doesn't have anything to do with Nashville. I am moving it to the Business and Finance forum. There are sure to be more responses there.

For managing your personal long term finances it would be Bob Brinker. I would highly recommend subscribing to his finacial news letter at his web site .com
He has a host of the best possible books to read and a weekly broadcast on Sat and Sun. for 3 hours each day. For your local station check the website. I have followed the man for 20 years and he is the Real Deal. Not bragging but I went from an average hard worker to a multi millionaire with a large part of the credit going to his help and recomendations along the way. You will not be sorry. Good luck, Silverfox |

It might be a better idea to get some books by the below authors
David Bach Suze Orman Ric Edelman Thomas Stanley |

Some of those books may even be on his list and I do like those authors as well, but at some point you have to walk the walk and talk the talk. Books......The list goes on and on. Save time and get right to the heart of the matter. Time is money. Silverfox ![]() |

Agree with all of the above...
Subscribe to Money Magazine... Catch both Dave Ramsey and Bob Brinker on the radio Watch Suze Orman on TV Read any of the books they all (incl Back, Edelman, & Stanley) write... Put Dave Ramsey at the top of the list and understand his method... if is life changing and freeing so you then have money to invest when understanding what the others have to say.... |

Dave Ramsey is OK, although he gets to religious for me. Since I was raised with the attitude that he teaches I can't really say I've learned much from him.
I've got to agree with silverfox on Brinker! 20 year subscriber and same result as silverfox. Best $190/year I've ever spent! golfgod |
