The Coming Exodus of America? (pension, property, costs, employment)

I do think America is in for some rough times, but people should look more at the culture of said country rather than economy for how well they'll ride out the storm. Any country with large masses of welfare class should be cautious (this would encompass much of Western Europe) since they'll be more than happy to cash in on the choas via violence (See Paris 2005 riots). Areas of the world where crime is prevalant are also out no matter how good the economy is (Latin America, Africa and most of the Caribbean), since those social elements will rear their ugly heads once they see money coming.

To be honest, look for a country with very high religous observance (Such as Middle East, India) since while the politics may be nasty, day to day life is much more stable. The Far East is an extremely good bet since ethnic homogenity is high and the culture is emerished in centuries of tradition not likely to unravel due to economic bumps.

In Short, the areas that will be your best bet are:

-Middle East/Isarel
-India
-China
-Korea
-Japan
-Eastern Europe
-Ireland*
-Italy
-Swiss
-Canada
-Australia/New Zealand
-Alaska (while in US, too expansive to track everyone down)
-Russia (Same as Alaska)

Western Europe will crumble due to ethnic tensions between the natives and new immigrants and the burdens of the welfare state. Latin America and Africa are still stuck in the "Do or Die" mentality for it to be safe for widespread investment.

Well they are the ones that need to do research then. Standards and quality of life outside the US are not up to par. If they want something "cheaper," they should just move to any Southern state.

I think we are staying here...but we have been considering moving for the last couple of years. We have our own business that could be run from anywhere and have UK, Swiss and USA citizenship so we have a lot of choices. No where really seems to offer the opportunity / safety we have in the US even with all the current issues. Every time we seriously consider another state / country we come back to what we have here is the best of all worlds for us (except for the super high cost of living).

Good catch. That's especially true for airline employees. That's a favorite retirement spot for them. Not just pilots and stewards/stewardesses, but ground crews and maintenance crews as well.

It all depends on your income level, just like in the US.
