If things really get bad, I plan for a small west Texas farm with a barn, a tractor, and a loving wife. Actually, I plan for this whether or not things get bad or not.

Well, you didn't save up for retirement by faith, did you?

About the same as it was for the last decade.
Live within my means, find extra work when I can, buy food from local farmers and support farmers markets so I'm independent of international markets for basic needs.
And make friends with the cows on the farm down the road. You never know when a cow might come in handy.

I'll just go back to living like I used to. No eating out, more canned than fresh, thrift stores and garage sales for any needs.
As it is right now I have already started cutting back. Not because I have to but the last 1 1/2 yrs I have gotten used to a little more money. Doing goofy things like going back to bar soap and a washcloth saves a few extra dollars! my kids and hubby arent happy about that one! LOL

I think mental health professions will do well also. People base so much of their self worth on their financial status. The stress of a sever economic downturn will ensure a lot of people will need a professional to talk to.

Get back to basics, focus on survival and not lifestyle. Live debt free and learn to do for yourself instead of paying others to provide services for you. Be prepared for massive inflation and unemployment.
