I have more money this year as a result of paying off my debt so I can spend more this year. Everyone close to me will still get a Cognac or other high end alcohol of their choice.

It will be the same for us. My dh and I don't do holidays because everyday is a holiday for us. We give money to our daughter and our grandkids. That will stay the same.

In previous years I have imposed limits on what my wife and I spend on people. This year the limits are going to shrink.

My wife is a Mary Kay consultant....therefore all the women in our family will get a bundle from Mary Kay...which wouldn't be so unenjoyable. The men will get an equivalent gift of some sort. The kids will each get $50 worth of toys plus a bonus from the fat man.

All the grownups are getting homemade gifts. Christmas is really for the kids, anyway.

I think we'll be around a 2 or a 3. We're not really hurting moneywise but I'm happy to try to get away from the excess that we have previously been guilty of. Before, when trying to set spending limits with family, I was called a grinch. Now everyone seems happy to comply. Joy to the world.

Funny my husband used to call me a grinch for the same reason. Now he agrees with not spending too much on our family members.
