Could someone answer my question above? Are extensions (after 26 weeks) automatic now?

The last 2 years I had to switch fields and take a clerical job at over 50% less in pay as a clerk. Then that company downsized and relocated and here I am, unemployed again. I've tried different jobs within the last few years, but at my age, it's rough. So unemployment helps with my wife's income. I have to pay Cobra (healthcare) out of pocket which is the hardest.

I can answer that. If you come off your 26 week claim, yes, the extension is automatic. 2 days after I ended, I received a new "claim form" in the mail and I started with the 13 wk extension, so it was automatic for me. If you've been off of unemployment for awhile, my state(NJ) was sending out applications. Check with your state website for unemployment, as I understand, it could vary the way things are done by state. Hope this helps.
BTW, I'm on the first extension, hopefully after the elections, a 2nd one will kick in. It's not passed yet, I believe.

why not just rob old ladies while your at it
youll need the insurance at the point- watch how many jobs are lost and how little is developed in this country if that happens

so your brilliant plan to keep jobs here is to tax them even more

The thing is you can't let it discourage you. I'm taking a tax class right now for seasonal income Jan-April. Its SOMETHING more than I have now, and I actually enjoy doing that stuff... Find out what you like to do on the side to try to earn income.

But if someone gives up on the economy and decides to drop out, do they truly deserve it? At that point they would be no more than a parasite.

What do you mean, what jobs? There is ALWAYS work to be had if one really wants to work. It's people holding out unreasonably long in hopes of finding something as good or better than their last job that are the ones saying there are no jobs.
There are lots of jobs out there people.

That's called "welfare" and it's a bad, bad idea.

I would like to see a 1-year unemployment term (that's plenty of time for them to look for a job) and after one year, the applicant MUST move into government service-related job (building infrastructure, customer service jobs, etc. etc.) and this MAY mean they HAVE to move to another city, etc. etc. We do have a 5-year limit on welfare if they CHOOSE to not get a government job but if they still choose to be lazy, then the streets should be their new home...
