Default Extended Warranty Programs from Circuit CIty

I brought a 65" TV from Circuit City last year and I brought the 3 year Warranty on it. Now that Circuit City has filed for bankruptcy, how does that affect the warranty programs that they offered? I am out of luck if my tv breaks down within the extended warranty period?

I heard on CNN today that their warranties are still good. But if they go out of business later, then I'm not really sure what happens. Maybe you can go directly to the manufacturer of the product if it breaks down.

Generally, the extended warranties are serviced by third-party companies, but read the fine print.

Thanks for the link knoxgarden. I also bought a 65" TV last year and assumed the extended warranty (which I usually won't buy but I got a great deal anyway) is now worthless. I figured it might be good for a ~$150 light bulb replacement.

I just want to add that the extended warranty from Circuit City is worthless now. I just had to deal with them because of my DVD player (which the drawer won't open and I have a DVD stuck in there). They said they have no repair center now and all they can do is write it up as salvage. They are suppose to be giving me a free mailer and I have to mail it back to them and they will give me the money I paid for the DVD player and consider the warranty taken care of. I am very ticked off about this whole thing. I feel for anyone who has a larger item than that that they need to use their warranty on because I don't have any clue what they'll make you do, but again, they say they have no repair center now so they can't actually do anything for you.

Are you getting anything in return? If not, what's the point of them writing up anything?

I'm so glad I hardly ever buy an extended warranty...just make a calculation and see how much it really saves you...I guess it is more likely that you pay for something you never use.
Only on very expensive things I might consider it, otherwise most manufacturies give already a warranty of a year.
I'm jus dealing with a camera that isn't working properly and has a 2 year warranty on it and I could have bought an extended one but I only have it for 4 months and it isn't working well, so I send it back and it is taking care off right now...after 2 years I better buy a new camera if something happens and there are so many sales going on that I can have a newer model for a good price at that time and I don't have to worry about the bankruptcy issue.
