It is a southern/midwest clothing chain store. I doubt they have any in California.

This has been in the works. Our Goody's closed its store last summer.

Well, if they are all like the one that we have, I don't wonder. They had a lot of stuff. LOTS of Stuff and the store was so crowded with racks and racks of Stuff, that I could barely move between racks. After a couple of minutes I decided that I never wanted to save money that bad and left. Never again did I darken Goody's door.

It doesn't matter how great the mechandise may be, if the store is a turn off, the customers don't come to shop.

Ours was very neat and attractive. Their merchandise just didn't appeal to me as it seemed more geared toward teens and twenty-somethings.

Our Goody's was in a strip mall next to another store called Dunlap's, which also went out of business a bit earlier than Goody's. I MISS DUNLAP'S! GREAT store with GREAT deals! Dillard-esque departments and displays with super name brands at Marshall's-type prices. I bought a lot of things at Dunlap's and wish they survived.

The going out of business sales have started. They're liquidating and going out of business.
It was started in 1953 by Mike Goodfriend. It was sold by the family to another company several years ago and has gone downhill since then.
It's a local company here in Knoxville with a huge distribution center.
The closing puts 10,000 people out of work in over 380 stores.

If it follows the trend of some other stores that went under: they sell out to a liquidator who proceeds to mark up prices (some people are clueless though and don't check prices, just think "going out of business" sale means a steal).

I never heard of them either, I thought it was a music store (maybe there was an East Coast music store by that name?)
