Blockbuster having big closing sales
I just started to notice it yesterday in my area. Blockbuster is closing many stores and are liquidating all of their product at cheap prices. It looks like they can no longer compete with Netflix, which has seemed to really explode in popularity lately over video stores.
One must wonder now what is going to happen to all of their stores? Have you seen a lot of Blockbuster closings in your neighborhood?

B&M video store are rapidly becoming dinosaurs of the 80's &90's and will soon become extinct. That goes for the few Mom & Pop stores left also.

They seem to be slowly closing stores. There is one around here still open.
Blockbuster was such a horrible and short sighted company.

Dexterguy where are you at in Michigan? I am in New Haven. There is still one at 32 and Gratiot in Richmond, and one In New Baltimore.Two along Gratiot, in Roseville and Clinton Township. Of couse that does'nt mean they will still be there next week.
I only go there because of the Coke points. You save enough you can get get buy one get one free.

We still have a whole bunch left here on Long Island, at least 3 I know of are definitely still open and have no plans to close anytime soon.
As a matter of fact, absolutely nothing has changed here on Long Island during this whole so called recession. The malls are still packed, the restaurants are still hopping. I think it has something to do with our already insanely high cost of living and taxation. What to the rest of the country was a huge tidal wave was a mere ripple to us.

It'll mean more empty storefronts. I lost a Blockbuster in a strip center I own, but I own the place outright, so no biggie. The economy is okay around here, so I should have a new tenant pretty quick. It's the anchors (a grocery & a drug store) that I worry about!

They have been loosing for years against Netflix. They have failed repeatedly to innovate with competition, it's how the free market works. Good riddance really.

It was reported about a month ago that they would close around 1,000 store nationwide.
