With all the unsolicited gathering of information Google does on it's users, plus how they help the Chinese government censor information to their own population, doesn't that put the lie to their "don't be evil" motto?
Leading question, so I guess that shows what I think.

You'll never see this photo on an image search of Google China. Like it never happened and Google is a party to it.

Google can only maintain their illusion of user protection so long, before more people like you and me begin to realize that their profits are coming first, and users privacy and human rights come second.

What disturbs me more is how many people know they're being monitored but aren't bothered by it. We've been conditioned to accept all of this as normal, especially young people who don't know any different.

I wouldn't assume that people are not bothered by it but ratheracknowledge they are largely helpless to do anything about it. Even unplugging from the net and grid won't give you privacy from government eyes in the sky or the government's intrusion into your medical records (HHS monitoring rules under Obamacare) and banking records (Patriot Act).

For the original meaning of the phrase:

GOOG, FB, etc are just ad platforms for the unemployed, poor and moronic: online versions of TV, papers, radio, etc, peddling ads for cars, beer, toilet paper, junk food, etc for generally crappy cos. from whom no competent consumer would buy their stuff (ad or no ad), except morons influenced by any ads (perhaps cos. should spend more money on engineering valuable, useful products, rather than stupid yet costly ads)

Only use of GOOG, FB, Twit, etc for US taxpayer is that incredibly easy (and far cheaper) for US gvt to monitor the generally moronic terrorists who live online on US networks as they plan their activities anywhere in world that matters

Google track everything you do, keep that in mind. The saying is quite ironic to say the least.

Great tool for governments to track people.
