When McDonald's stunned analysts last Monday by posting U.S. sales growth of 2.5% in November after a drop of 2.2% the prior month, one contributor went untouted: The company gained sales by urging franchisees to open on Thanksgiving, a holiday during which many of them traditionally close.
They should be open. They are in business to make money, so if they can make more money by being open on holidays, then they should. I will be driving 5 1/2 hours on Christmas day, so if I see a McDonald's open, I will stop and get a Filet O' Fish.
Why not, many people will be on the road. Just pay employees double time and ask for volunteers. It will be a good opportunity for those who don't have family, don't celebrate or don't have a place to go.
I have mixed feelings on this. Realistically, there are probably some people who want to work, who maybe even need to work that day to cover their bills. However, there will be mothers and fathers who miss Christmas morning with their kids because they have to work or be fired, and that's a shame no matter where these parents work. I read an article recently on the impossible task of making a living working at McDonald's. It's was very interesting - though I can't remember where I read it.

Isn't every company in business to make money? Maybe we should make EVERYONE work thanksgiving and Christmas, that seems to be the way things are going.
There is no reason to do it. This is just greed, yes GREED, just because you can make more money doesn't mean you should especially when other things are more important like giving people the opportunity to spend time with their family and have a day off. Of course their employees could use more money but no one wants to work on Christmas and there is no reason they should have to. They work hard enough and miss every other holiday so it's not too much to ask them to close on Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you need food during travel, pack a lunch, it's not that hard. These restaurants were never open in the past and people seemed to survive so spare me the argument that people need to have these places stay open.
If theres extra money involved many people will jump at the chance to work Christmas day. i just retired from a milk processing plant that would only shut down when the cows stopped producing milk,in 32 years there i never saw such a day, working Christmas day or any other major holiday usually resulted in being paid double time plus the day.
My oldest daughter now working emergency dispatch for a local pd, at double time and a half union scale she is without a doubt looking forward to working Christmas and New Years day,

Many people LIKE to work to work holidays. Some people need extra money, some don't celebrate, sooner don't have families.
Where I work they asked for volunteers to work the holidays, and more people wanted to work than needed.
