I am starting an allied education website which grew from a need from within my own classroom. I have secured a domain name, a host, and am in the process of learning to build a website using Wordpress. I would like to, eventually, make it a business with a store.

The first things on my site will be video lessons, and a forum. I have several other education related items that will be featured on the site.

I have no idea what I am doing and feel like I am fumbling around in the dark.

Do I need a business license if I am not actually selling anything yet? Do I need to trademark or copyright anything? Should I be doing something to protect the integrity of the business to come?

Thanks for any advice.
