That's your EIN - Employee Identification number. I've been calling it a tax id but maybe it's called something else? It was my SS# with 000 on the end that allowed me to open accounts with vendors.. Sales & Use tax number? I'm sorry but I don't think every state is the same. Do you have a town hall you can contact and ask them what you need. It's really simple, you go there, look and see if anyone else has your business name, fill out a form, pay and they give you an ID.

Having a tax ID was one of the things I was never sure of, but I got one anyway. It's been required or requested more often than I expected.

I live in Collin County Texas. Here we get a DBA at the county clerk's office. No tax id number. We have to get that through the IRS. The state comptroller issues sales and use tax permit and resale exemption permits. I will go and get a dba on tuesday and apply for the other two on the same day. Thanks for all the pointers. I guess I can get the TIN from the IRS and just get my daughter to work my business part time. I know I am going to have to pay FICA, etc if I pay over a certain amount. But oh well. Here in this part of my town, people are spending lots of money on home decor. I have sold Home Interiors before and have been very successful, however I want to make the money not Home Interiors. LOL Thanks again.

Yes I think I just found out. I just joined this dropshipper called National dropshippers dot com. It cost me $90 to find out I can get the stuff cheaper on ebay My husband is not amused. I think I will just go to the dallas market center and deal with the real "trade". Well at least it didn't cost me more. I was originally looking at another company that was going to charge me $200. Oh well....lesson learned.
I am going to rent out a space at a local antiques dealer that is VERY well attended by the people in this town. It is very popular and I myself have shopped there. I checked out his prices several years ago and the rent was reasonable. Hope it hasn't gone up so much.

There are retailers who call themselves wholesalers.
But once you have dealt with wholesalers, and then gone into one of those retailers, the differences are obvious.
However I might add that those 'big box' retailers do have a loyal following who like the higher prices and insist that they are paying wholesale.

Oh no! You don't pay companies to buy from them, you just pay for product. Yes, I have found items on ebay cheaper then wholesale also.

Wholesalers are not clubs, and have no memberships.

The last few items that I have been shopping for, I have looked at Chinese manufacture.
I have observed: high prices, limited availability, no body can repair the items, customer reviews give stories of equipment that does not perform well and does not last long.
So it is expensive, is hard to find, can not be repaired, does not do the job and breaks often; so why should I?
