I'm not sure, but it's not a real smart thing to tick off the Pope. Langone may be alright... he probably has friends in low places.

To paraphrase Joe Stalin when he was advised not to tick off Pius XII, "How many divisions does he (the Pope) have?" The Pope should get his own house in order before he comments on someone elses.

<shrug> The world doesn't revolve around Home Depot or the ultra-rich Americans anymore. I liked the veiled threat that a POTENTIAL ANONYMOUS donor might not give a donation to the church. I've seen seven year old boys come up with better coercion attempts than that. It rates right up there with "I won't eat my peas, and you can't make me."

No one was helping out Langone when him and his friends opened the first Home Depot Store. They put everything on the line to build that business on their own. In the USA the wealthy are the biggest givers in the world. That is what he is getting at. The Pope is saying that those with money do not give and that the poor need more. The problem is that in the USA that just is not the case. The wealthiest do give and they give big. Look at Bill Gates, he plans on giving most of his wealth away. Warren Buffet is doing the same thing. These guys and many like them have set up foundations that distribute their money.

Well, I'm not a Catholic, but I think that's exactly what this pope is trying to do.
