On the side, I write apps for Tablets/Mobile phones, and I'd like to associate these with a company. I have a company name, with domain reserved, and a logo that works great with it. Haven't done anything else, though, like registering for a LLC, etc.
But the thing is, I live in California reluctantly, knowing I'd like to move out of here, if I ever figure out how to make income that's not dependent on jobs (in my work industry, L.A. is the best area, but I can't stand L.A. for many reason.)
So I've heard that you need to go to the Secretary of State for the specific State, but I don't want to register for a new company that's tied to California, because it's not my goal to stay here much longer.
I simply want to reserve my company name, so, when in the future I figure out to support myself living in, say, southern Oregon, or in New Mexico, and I finally want to start the company with my chosen name, I can do it with my reserved name.
Personally I wouldnt worry about it unless it is a brandable term. Say you just want to open 'Joes bikes' but someone has joes bikes inc. You could do a variant like Joes bikes and more inc and everyone would know you as Joes bikes.
If you wanted to do Zingbike (brandable term) I would suggest trademarking the term as 'intent to use'

Nevada is a primary state for incorporation, easy and cheap. Many corps are registered in Delaware, same reason, even when having no presence in Delaware.
It's ironic that you're mentioning Nevada. I actually tried to live there, in Henderson, and loved it for the 5 months that I lasted there.. couldn't find a job.
Which is why I vowed to find a way to create my own income, someway, and thus be able to live in any state I please. It's just the way to go.
