I'm wanting to learn every thing there is to know about patents for software. I've been working on software that solves a problem. I need to find out if I can leverage the patent system and if so, how.
I've been referred to an intellectual property attorney, but I need to know as much as she does about patents so that I can know if she knows what she is talking about.
Has anyone applied for a software patent here that is willing to give a few pointers on where I can get started and/or how to best use the patent system in this application?

Most patent attorney's that I know have an undergrad degree in engineering in addition to their law degree. It should be pretty easy for you to know as much as she knows. How hard could it be?

Do you mean that sarcastically?
I have no idea what I'm stepping into. Patents can make people serous money. There is a big patent war as you probably know with Apple, Google and MS as well as Samsung and many others. They know the game and that is what I want to learn as well as the patent system as it was intended to be used.
In addition to learning the patent system, if I could avoid paying an attorney I could apply for a patent sooner.

Any tips and/or pointers would be appreciated.
Of course I meant it sarcastically. Think a bit about what you wrote, that I highlighted in green. Do you really think that is going to happen?
Nice. A step in the right direction I need a copyright, not a patent.
