Regarding transactions with strangers, where you are the seller: What is the max a buyer should expect to bring cash? Being that most of these take place in a public setting, I'm sure people start feeling antsy, carrying $x in cash on them.
Then, what is the next acceptable form of payment, to ensure you're not getting duped? Money order?
We've sold cars for $3000 - $6000 cash. I suppose if it was more than that I'd be happy to meet the buyer in his bank and take the cash from the teller.

Cash only, and I meet in the local police precinct parking lot in full view of cameras.
I've know cash transactions into the tens of thousands. I once did a transaction in Krugerrand. If a business transaction, doing it in your's or another place of business isn't that big a deal. But if selling to some stranger on a more personal sales basis, convextech use of a law enforcement location is the best. I knew one person who sold a collectable for about $16,000 cash and did it at his bank. He deposited about half right on the spot.
Bank and Police Station would be safest route to meet if large amount of transaction is required. Cash is safest route not to get scam....You'll need to make sure the money is real. My brother and I bought a car from a stranger and they took the Cashiers Check without a thought but I don't know if I would do that if I was the Seller. I just don't trust people.
These days, people get set up and killed over trying to buy a stupid cellphone...that's like a couple of hundred dollars.
When I bought a camping van from Craigslist we met at my bank where I withdrew the money and handed it to him. He immediately bought himself a cashier's check IT was $8400.
The last house I sold was $166,000 all cash. I sold another house $225,000 all cash a couple of years ago. I don't think there is a ceiling, but Uncle Sam will get himself involved at some point.
You mean a point beyond where the buyer takes actual folding money out of his pocket and hands it to you? The most I've received that way is about $2500, for a stack of redwood boards. I've sold stuff for a lot more, but usually get a check.
