And I suspect that more of those big box stores will be going down. I needed some crabgrass preventer for my yard. Did I go to Lowes or Home Depot? Nope. Few clicks on Amazon and it was here the next day for less money than I would have paid in the BB stores.
Too bad, my kids love going there. I prefer physical stores over virtual because my kids love gawking and holding toys in their hands. Can't do the same thing on Amazon.

It's true. And we've kept the good toys like the Thomas train set, all the track and buildings, even the Thomas train box which they don't make anymore. Toys R Us used to sell all of that, don't know if they still do.
At some point in the future, they will figure out how to just put a chip in their heads so they can sit around all day without having to actually move their fingers and eyeballs.
What about Babies R US? They do good there. Wonder if they are shutting that down. Babies R Us is targets main competitor in the baby world .
Target? They are barely holding on.
They can't figure out what market they are in, and as a result, gets beat by any of its competitors. Their only saving grace are the bored Facebook mommies who go there for retail relief. (when the benzos run out)
Toys “R” Us Inc. is making preparations for a liquidation of its bankrupt U.S. operations after so far failing to find a buyer or reach a debt restructuring deal with lenders, according to people familiar with the matter.
While the situation is still fluid, a shutdown of the U.S. division has become increasingly likely in recent days, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. Hopes are fading that a buyer will emerge to keep some of the business operating, or that lenders will agree on terms of a debt restructuring, the people said.
Toys “R” Us generated $11.5 billion in sales in 2016. And though the company hadn’t reported an annual profit since its 2013 fiscal year because of interest payments, its operating income had risen 22 percent, to $460 million.
Kind of weird that a company that had 11.5 billion in sales is still going under.......
Obviously, its operating costs are greater than its ability to operate.
There's nothing at Toys "R" Us that you can't get at Amazon (for less) or some other web-site (for less).
I haven't been in a Toys "R" Us in more than 25 years. I went there to buy a handheld electronic baseball game for my nephew who was in hospital and to buy a handheld electronic football game (made by the same company), which I was very fond of, and which was destroyed when we crashed and burned in the Harz Mountains coming out of Wolfenbüttel.
Sells for $429 on E-bay. Imagine that.
