Campbell Soup Co said on Wednesday it was planning to increase prices of some products, as it deals with higher ingredient and freight costs that are likely to plague packaged foods makers through the year.

We can expect most other businesses to do the same. We did a 500 mile coastal road trip Saturday, and had meals at three nice restaurants in Oregon and Washington. Each of them had a sign asking for patience with the delays due to a shortage of staff. You can no longer ask for a beer that's on the menu, instead you have to ask which beers they have in stock. Even some foods were out of stock, due to supply issues.

All of the cities and towns that we passed through or stopped at had many "now hiring" signs. Almost every 19 wheeler that we past on the highways had a sign on the back with a number to call for jobs with them. We also saw a lot of container and breakbulk ships anchored offshore, waiting to be unloaded.

When there is a shortage of products, supply and demand means higher prices. When there is a shortage of workers, the employers have to pay more and pass on the cost to the customers. Perhaps the end of the additional federal unemployment will help some, but it seems that no one wants to drive a truck or serve food any more, even if they have no skills for better jobs.

Flavored salt with a boatload of sugar added. Take a look at a can of their tomato soup.

The tomato soup is not chunky soup. There's not much sugar in the chunky soup. There's quite a bit of sodium so if you're unhealthy, it's worth skipping.

now that they've turned off the public spigot for the non contributors they'll stumble back to those $15 an hour. Hunger is a wonderful motivator.

It's hard to find anything without sugar or HFCS in anything these days. I'm trying to eat lighter and starting to eat more salads, and just about all salad dressings, even Italian seem to have sugar as one of their major ingredients.

Now, I just get a pack of dressing ingredients and add my own olive oil and vinegar.

Try Newman's Own Salad Dressings. Some of their dressings don't have sugar or HFCS. Check out Ken's "Simply" dressings too if you can find them.
