Speeding UP. They're bringing out the Christmas freight already. Up or down means to me something different than what it might mean to you. If they bring another three trucks a week--regardless of whether or not they actually SELL the merchandise--that's an up week. If the truck comes and it's only half full, that's a down week. The amount of sales is actually irrelevant.

Suprisingly, home sales are UP
I'll be the first to admit that there is no rhyme or reason for this; but, now that the economy is topsy-turvy my real estate sales are exploding. HOWEVER, I also work at Sears part-time in the appliance department and sales seem to be really slow there.
I'm an eternal optimist!

Incoming leads: same rate. Active lead activity (people who have expressed further interest): slowing. But we are in the construction industry and spring is our high season.
BTW, thanks, fellow business owners, for sharing your data points.

We have a manufacturer rep/service co. Business is steady.... but we are still a small fish in a big pond (Chicago) and have lots of opportunities to expand w/new product lines & accts. Our products are necessary and somewhat recession proof. As the economy weakens & customers delay big equipment purchases, we are expanding our service business for their existing equipment. There may also be better opportunities for us to acquire competitors w/in the next 5 years (as long as we can still obtain affordable credit ).

It is dead as a mackerel out there. My biz is way off. Once the economy chooses a direction, good or bad, it will pick up again. But when things are uncertain, that's when the problems arise.

Mine is dead. I'm looking at alternatives, but any ethics and morals I had are out the window/ The world is changing, why shouldn't I?

So you want to run a profitable business w/out any business ethics or morals. I'm sure customers, employees, competitors, law enforcement won't care. Yeah, good luck with that...
BTW, these are the times that really test our ethics/morals and show our true character. Or is character not important to you?

Take competitors off the list. Anything you can do to eliminate them is fair game.

Photographer and calligrapher here. I'm booked through November, but I've noticed a sharp drop in inquiries in the last week. I don't think that's a priority right now. I'm thinking about renewing my teaching certificate just in case...
