Post News, UAW sees opening for diesel production.

BROOK PARK, Ohio, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F) settlement with Navistar International (OTCPK:NAVZ) could open the door for an Ohio factory to begin diesel engine production, a union official said.

Ford signed a letter of understanding with the United Auto Workers in 2007 that said, should the opportunity arise, it would consider producing diesel engines at a Brook Park plant near Cleveland, Local 1250 President Mike Gammella told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

While diesel engines are more economical I'm not sure people will like the cost of diesel. Historically diesel has been at lower cost than gasoline in the US. However in the last few years, with other economies in the world developing, diesel has been higher priced. Most of the rest of the world uses diesel for vehicles, in the US we mostly use gasoline. It may be a better idea to improve the gasoline engine as there appears to be a good supply of it, rather than diesel available for use in the US.
