Default Can I get a tax return?

Hello,

I am a sole proprietor for the first time starting this year. My question is: I paid a lot of sales tax when I bought office stuff, Car and so on. Can I get this back?

Thank you

Are you referring to the fact that having a sales tax number allows you to not pay sales tax on purchases and you bought before you had one and now want to recover them?
If that is what you are asking, then,no.
Only goods purchased to resell (inventory) is exempt .The tax is paid by the end user and you collect it.
However, any money you have already spent is a deductible amount.
If this isn't what you meant ( or if there has been a substantial change since I was in business) then ignore.

Does this mean with this number I do not have to pay sales tax when I buy something for my business?

old_cold laid it out pretty well. If you sell widgets, you get to not pay sales tax on widget parts. You still have to pay sales tax on widget manufacturing equipment and anything else. Since you are a sole proprietor, you don't get some of the more complex benefits that a corporation affords, but even a corporation has to pay sales tax the same way.

Of course, you get to pay excise tax when you buy the manufacturing equipment. And property tax every year on it.
Aren't we lucky to be in business?!?
