Post News, Chrysler sales plunge 55 pct; GM, Toyota also down.

DETROIT – Chrysler's U.S. vehicle sales plunged 55 percent in January, while General Motors' tumbled 49 percent and Ford's dropped 40 percent, starting 2009 at an abysmal pace for the whole auto industry as lower sales to fleet buyers like rental car companies weighed down the results.

In 1998, Chrysler was selling about 2.7 Million vehicles a year.

In 2008, they only sold 1.4 Million vehicles.

I think that the Chrysler-Fiat alliance would work, if Chrysler was in better shape, and the economy was not the way it is.

Thing is that Chrysler's platforms and cars are out of date and FIAT has a lot of good cars and platforms that would breath some life into that business. I think it's a good idea too especially considering the other limited options.
