hi lizzy! thanks for the info. i actually plan on buying an established route already. u know, owners that are going out of biz or retiring. i actually found a few on craigslist. maybe i will settle for this guy who sells his one soda machine located at a factory/warehouse for $500 he said the machine needs minor repairs but is still functional without fixing it. i ask him why he was selling it he said it became slow coz of the lay offs. and that the gross monthly is $150.

I was just laid off from my FT job. I only have $3K to invest into a small business but I'm looking for something that I can make a profit from. I have no idea what kind of business that I want to start but I need to generate income real soon. I've seen several business for sale but I'm new to being a new owner so I dont want to make a bad business decision. Due to this economy I cant afford to lose my $3k. Does anyone have any ideas of what type of business that I can start with very little funds? By the way I live in Northwest Georgia

I repair vending machines for a living. I am self employed. the vending business isnt what it was 15-20 years ago. lots of greedy whores have really ruined the business. good equipment is expensive, new machines arent nearly as good as ones from 10-15 years ago. If I can help with any questions let me know

When you buy vending machines, how do you inplant them at a particular location. Must you get authorization from lets say the Mall, or a particular street?
Also, Do you some kind of license to do this?

you have to talk to the person at the location , find out if they already use a vending service or not. You cant just haul your equipment into a location & start servicing it. As far as license goes, the only required in this area is vending permits or license for each machine for each municipality, depending on the local laws.

Let's take a look at the first year income statement for option two. I assume what you call gross income is revenue.
ABC Vending Corporation
Revenues 40,000
Cost of Goods Sold 28,000 (assume 70%)
Gross Profit 12,000
less operating expenses
Loan payment on equipment 6,000
Vehicle expenses incl depn (.55/mile) 11,000
Owners salary ZERO
Business insurance 1,000
Telephone 900
Computer expense 900
Many other expenses ?
Net Income/(Loss) Before Taxes $(7,800)
Think about this very long and hard.
